THEBIGGERPICTURE (London) — A 19-year-old teenager was shot dead in Detroit on late Friday at around 11:30pm, police said, after a man driving a gray Dodge Durango shot into a crowd of demonstrators.

The teenager later passed away in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to the chest. Video obtained by Detroit Free Press showed the man bleeding from the chest, they reported, with demonstrators nearby trying their best to revive him, to no avail. Police could not confirm or deny if the victim was part of the nationwide demonstrations that have emerged across America in the wake of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Since the original murder occurred on Monday, demonstrations have spread beyond Minneapolis and across the country, to major cities like Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, Boston, Houston and Dallas. Amongst the thousands on the streets, many young people have been involved in the protests, against the racism and police brutality that depressingly still persists in America today.

Police are currently investigating into the death of the teenager.
